6 inches x 8 5/8 in., half-title; color frontispiece of Old Gates (St. Augustine); title-page with vignette; dedication page; author's preface; contents; list of illustrations; xviii, pp. [19]-200; illustrated with four colored plates, and two etchings, and over fifty other black & white, in-text illustrations, by Louis K. Harlow (1850-1913). Dark brown cloth spine and sides and beige cloth over boards, gilt-lettered titling on the spine, and gold and black titling on the front cover with a palmetto leaf design on the front cover, across the spine and part of the back cover, top-edge gilt. The cloth spine shows some darkening to the cloth, light wear to the spine ends, cover corners, some slight buckling to cloth on the back cover, light age-related tanning, dusting to end papers, front prelims. Engraved, heraldic bookplate of Robert Clayton Swan [Motto: Sit Nomen Decus], on the front paste-down. Colored plates: The Old Gates; Fort Marion; Live Oak; Palmettos on the St. John's. This copy is in very good condition but it does have three places where Boylston Public Library is stamped as well as a bookplate from the Boylston Public Library listing their 12 ‘rules and regulations’ from 1925.
